The function of the spark plug is to introduce the pulsed high voltage electricity generated by the IGNITION COIL into the combustion chamber, and the electric spark generated by the electrode ignites the mixed gas to complete the combustion.

Car spark plug model identification

The model of a domestic spark plug consists of three parts of numbers or letters. The front number indicates the thread diameter, such as the number 1, which means the thread diameter is 10mm. The middle letter indicates the length of the spark plug screwed into the cylinder section; the last digit indicates the thermal type of the spark plug: 1-3 is hot type, 5, 6 is Medium, 7 or more is cold. The "gap" of the spark plug is its main working technical index. If the clearance is too large, the high voltage generated by the ignition coil and the distributor is difficult to skip, which makes the engine start difficult. If the gap is too small, the spark will be weak and the leakage will occur easily.

Car spark plug inspection replacement

1. Spark plug disassembly: Remove the high-voltage split lines on the spark plugs in turn, and mark them in the original position to avoid misplacement. In the disassembly, be careful to remove dust and debris from the spark plug hole in advance to prevent debris from falling into the cylinder. When disassembling, use a spark plug sleeve to secure the spark plug, turn the sleeve to remove it, and arrange it in turn.

2, spark plug cleaning: spark plugs with oil or carbon deposits should be cleaned in time, but do not use flame barbecue. If the ceramic core is damaged or broken, it should be replaced.

3. Spark plug inspection: The normal color of the electrode of the spark plug is grayish white. If the electrode is black and has carbon deposit, it indicates that there is a fault. During the inspection, the spark plug can be connected to the cylinder block. The central high-voltage line is used to touch the terminal of the spark plug, and then the ignition switch is turned on to observe the high-voltage electric jump position. If the electric jump position is in the gap of the spark plug, it means that the spark plug works well, otherwise it needs to be replaced.

4, spark plug electrode gap adjustment: the spark plug gap of various models have a difference, generally should be between 0. 7-0. 9, check the gap size, can be used spark plug gauge or thin metal sheet. If the gap is too large, the outer electrode can be tapped gently with a screwdriver handle to make the gap normal; if the gap is too small, the screwdriver or the metal piece can be inserted into the electrode to be pulled outward.

5, the replacement of the spark plug: the spark plug is a consumable part, generally should be replaced when driving 20,000-30000 km. The sign of the spark plug replacement is that there is no flashover, or the discharge portion of the electrode is rounded due to ablation. In addition, if it is found in the use of spark plugs that often deposit carbon and fire, it is generally because the spark plug is too cold, you need to use a hot spark plug; if there is a hot ignition phenomenon or a shock in the cylinder, you need to use a cold spark plug.
